SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Dec. 8, 2022) – A bill introduced in the Illinois Senate would legalize the permitless sale of raw milk on a farm where it is produced. The passage of this bill would expand food freedom in Illinois and take a step toward nullifying a federal prohibition scheme in effect.
Sen. Neil Anderson (R) introduced Senate Bill 4237 (SB4237) on Nov. 14. Under the proposed law, a dairy farm in Illinois could legally sell and distribute unpasteurized milk or milk products for human consumption without a permit from the Department of Public Health if the animal that produces the milk or milk product is housed at the dairy farm.
